MRCS — Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick
I have long wanted to dedicate a separate article to a one-product review. It was quite difficult to chose which one deserves so much attention. The product I’ve chosen isn’t only well-known in the world of Korean skincare, but also has a tonn of interesting details to be mentioned along the way.
If you are as crazy about Korean cosmetics as I am and you follow all the Korean skincare news, then you certainly have heard or read about this soap for the second step cleansing from the company Su: m 37. I purchased it only recently, though, as far back as 2014 it had already won Soko Glam Best of Beauty Award Winner and I started dreaming of getting it.The name of the product is so long that sometimes skincare addicts just call it RMCS (so it doesn’t mean Royal Military College of Science as I initially thought).
What is Rose Miracle Cleansing Stick or RMCS — in fact, it is a soap, in the form of a retractable stick (like glue or deodorant). Ingredients wise it does contain some wonderful oils such as: coconut, olive, and of course, petals of damask rose and ingredients that have passed through some natural fermentation processes. Unlike your ordinary soap, Rose Miracle Cleansing Stick does not dry the skin, it forms a fantastic lather and leaves the face fresh and crystal squeaky clear.
This product was so enormously popular in Korea, when it just launched, that Su:m37 did not have time to produce, or rather, the rose petal suppliers did not have time to grow damask roses in sufficient quantity to satisfy all the Korean beauties ^ _ ^. I do not know about 2016, but even in 2015 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick was not openly displayed in shop windows but was sold to customers only upon prior request.
Why all the hype?
• Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick has a low level of Ph (5.5), which is ideal for your skin;
• The packaging is really nice though very simple, it is suitable for travel or taking to the gym;
• As I mentioned above, it forms a luxurious soft fragrant foam;
• These real damask rose petals, they can really be seen and you feel them on your skin, real rose petals that you can wash your face with every single day.
Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick comes in a pretty capacious tube and holds 80 g. of product which is a lot and will last you for at least 3-4 months, if you use it twice a day.
How to use Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick? There are 3 options:
1. The easiest, or so to say the official method is to simply apply the product directly from the tube onto the face, then add a little bit of water, nice aromatic foam is going to form in a second and voilà, time to indulge in an aromatheraputic session. Light circular massage movements will help to clean the skin completely, but they will also enhance the bloodstream and contribute to some mild exfoliation;
2. It is possible to apply the MRCS onto wet hands, foam it first and only then spread onto the face;
3. Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick can be applied to all kinds of cleaning sponges (eg. konjac sponge) or devices (eg. Clarisonic), in this case you’ll use less product.
I guess it will be good to mention a few words about the company who makes MRCS — Su:m 37. Probably you will be surprised to learn that Su:m 37 (+ Belif, The Face Shop) is owned by a huge South Korean conglomerate corporation of LG (주식회사 LG). Yes, yes, the LG that makes microwave ovens, TVs, refrigerators, etc. LG is ranked second in Korea-scale release of cosmetic products after the Amore Pacific (Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Mamonde, Innisfree, Etude House).
Why is the brand called Su:m 37? The name of the company Su:m 37 contains the temperature at which the ingredients used in this brand’s products ferment — 37C. The «Sum», as I understand means «breath» or «breathing«, where a colon (:) means pause after inhalation.
The five top-selling products of Su:m 37 in Asia are:
- Secret Programming Essence (I’ve been dreaming about getting this for a very long, but still can’t talk myself into spending that much money on an essence);
- Secret Repair Concentrated Cream;
- Water-full gel cream;
- White Award Bubble De-Mask;
- Air-rising Glow Cover Metal Cushion.
As you know, there is no need to buy full-sized products right away, because you can get testers on Ebay, they are much cheaper and will give you an impression of what the product is like.
The making of Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick is a very complex process. Fresh rose petals are carefully sorted and the best ones are selected, defected petals are excluded from the making of MRCS. Next selected petals are added to the soap composition by hand and are laid in layers so that the structure of the petals doesn’t get damaged. That’s why when you are using Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick you can literally see these neat, solid pink petals and smell the amazing scent of fresh roses.
What skin type is Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick suitable for?
According to the description of the product, it is suited for all skin types, but at the same time it does contain ingredients that may potentially cause allergies or acne: for ex: coconut oil, olive oil, stearic acid, lauric acid and tocopherol (vitamin E). Do review the ingredients list very carefully, to be very sure that you are not allergic to any of these ingredients. MRCS belongs to the luxury segment of Korean cosmetics as does all of Su:m 37 and is therefore quite on a pricey side. It is definitely not a great idea to purchase it and then to realize that it contains ingredients that trigger acne or allrgy on your skin.
My opinion: overall it’s just great soap in a stick, it smells very nice, it is easy to foam, it cleanses the skin perfectly without leaving a feeling of tightness. I do truly like it and I love having it near my sink from just a visual and esthetic point of view, but I can not say that this is a staple or a must-have/must-buy. If you already have a product that you use for washing your face (2d step) and you are satisfied with it and have no desire to spend some extra money (around 30 USD on ebay) to try out a new «soap», you can skip MRCS for sure.
If you’re like me and you just want to test any new products on Korean beauty market, MRCS is a must for you ^ _ ^
❤ An important side point: hygiene. I guess that Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick is not the most hygienic product for skin care. It is weird that none of the beauty-gurus has mentioned this fact before. MRCS is constantly in contact with water and your skin, in addition, it is in the bath, i.e. in a humid and warm environment under the closed lid. It is not a Cleansing Oil with a pump that does not have any direct contact with water or with the skin, as long as you do not press the pump. So…. just do keep that in mind.

As some Korean skincare gurus (René Gothamista) recommend: to avoid germs from forming on your MRCS there are 3 ways: 1). remove the wet surface of the MRCS after each use or if you have some slimy surface that has already formed — do remove that too (you’ll apparently lose some product by doing that); 2). leave the MRCS open for some time after using it to allow the upper layer to dry and only after that put the cap back on (not the best method for me, as my cat loves all cosmetics and he either chews on it or lick it when it is left open ^_^); 3). after using MRCS close the cap and turn the MRCS upside down to allow access moisture or water to drop into the cap instead of forming on the surface of the soap. Hope this helps.
For it is basically simple soap, do remember that if it gets into your eyes or mouth, the feeling you’re going to get will be the same as with soap.
